Student of the Month display in your classroom made easy! This post will help you create an effective Student of the Month display in minutes.
Do you or your school have a Student of the Month program that builds Character Education on campus?
On my campus we have a Student of the Month program that promotes a specific character trait monthly on the morning show with little lessons and ends each month with selecting a nominee from each classroom at a breakfast celebration. This Student of the Month program is hosted by our Guidance Counselor.
As a busy teacher, I was forgetting to recognize a classroom nominee and to celebrate that nominee in my own classroom. I was alway late! I realized this because there was not a visual in front of me, so the papers fell in a stack and at the bottom of my to do list sometimes.
To solve my problem I created a Student of the Month display in just minutes! Little did I know how much this display would assist in building a classroom community, teaching more character education traits and be loved by my students.
Here’s how to create a Student of the Month display for your classroom!
- Decide what you want to display each month. Ask yourself, what am I recognizing for my students? This could be a set program like my school, or a classroom program you implement that recognizes character traits, accomplishments, milestones or something different. There are endless possibilities!
- Find a special spot in your classroom to honor each nominee monthly. I used the side of a black closet. The space doesn’t have to be huge or fancy, a little nook will be perfect.
Materials needed to create a Student of the Month display for your classroom!
- Laminator: Below are my 2 favorite choices, I own both. They have lasted me forever!!! I keep one at home and one in my classroom.
2. Laminating Pouches: I always like to use personal laminating pouches because they are thicker and last longer. They stay up all year and look brand new. I laminate the award and the student picture. I then send these home with students, parents like to hang them on the fridge or keep them to save. So laminating is very important!
3. Awning: Isn’t this awning adorable?!?! I love it and the size was perfect on my closet! Adding this special touch made the space fancy and noticeable. It drew attention to everyone coming into the classroom. I hung it with 2 command hooks!

That’s it! Once you have these materials you are ready to set up your display!
Lastly, you can grab this FREE SIGN to laminate and hang! I printed my sign on white card-stock, but you can print it on any color you want for your classroom!
